EXCLUSIVE: Feature producers Art Linson and John Linson are putting roots in television with their first TV studio deal, a first-look pact at Fox TV Studios. The father-and-son duo ventured into TV with FX’s flagship drama series Sons of Anarchy, on which they serve as executive producers. They also executive produce the network’s pilot Outlaw Country, which FtvS co-produces with FX Prods. “Art and John had two television ideas thus far. The first became one of cable’s biggest successes, Sons of Anarchy, and the second became our upcoming FX pilot Outlaw Country. Hard to argue with two for two,” FtvS EVP David Madden said. “We’re really enjoying the collaboration and felt that the film and TV pedigree of these veteran producers, combined with their immaculate taste and edgy aesthetic, made them an ideal fit for the studio.”
Madden and Art Linson go back a quarter century. They worked together on the 1987 feature The Untouchables, which Linson produced and Madden shepherded as a Paramount production executive. In addition to the personal connection, John Linson said he and his father decided to partner with Madden and his team after discovering that their “creative style and goals for our partnership mirror our own.” “Cable has become the place to be for producers who want to bring fresh, original ideas to audiences and continue to raise the bar,” he added. On the film side, the Linsons are producing Gaijin, a post WWII Yakuza movie written by Andrew Baldwin, for a 2011 release.
